14x More Vets Died from Lack of Healthcare as in Afghanistan

A Harvard Medical School research team estimates 2,266 U.S. military veterans under the age of 65 died last year because they lacked health insurance and had reduced access to care.
That’s more than 14 times the number of deaths suffered by U.S. troops in Afghanistan the same year.

Former refugee recycles US hotel soap for Uganda

In his African homeland, the cost of soap is out of reach for many, often with tragic consequences.
In 2004, the World Health Organization found roughly 15 percent of deaths among Ugandan children under age 5 resulted from diarrheal diseases, many of which could be prevented through hand sanitation.

WHO reports 2,500 cases of swine flu + 44 Deaths

In the United States, the total number of confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus, as swine flu is officially called, nearly doubled to 1,639 from the day before, with reports coming from 43 states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported.
